Ok, my friends...I finished! It is so soft and wonderfully cozy! I used Caron Simply Soft and I believe the silkiness of this yarn, and the fact that it is not a bulky yarn, greatly enhanced the product I might have otherwise achieved with something of heavier weight. The stitches lay/lie one on top of the other very closely and really enhance the knitted look. While making this with the Caron, I had to be SUPER CAREFUL not to split my yarn or snag it. Each stitch is very visible and one snag will mar it and stand out like a sore thumb! You also have to be super careful not to miss a stitch or make the stitch in the wrong place!
The sewing together of the final piece to create the tube wasn't working for me and I ended up joining it as I do with granny squares: a sl st into the top st and a sc in the matching bottom stitch. The 3rd pic below shows the join done in ivory yarn. This can be worn in the back and won't show that much (except to all those standing or sitting behind you!). LOL
When I make the next one, I don't think I'll make it quite as deep. Picture 4 below shows you just how deep this baby is. I needed to double it down to get it on my neck and off my face. The double thickness would, however, be fabulous for those in really cold climates - and the depth would be great for covering your nose in extreme cold. For wearing it out during the day in more moderate temps, I really think one could get away with something half the height. Just my opinion...everyone will feel differently.
Having said all this, I highly recommend the pattern. It's available on Ravelry...the designer is Mamachee (Tara). It's extremely easy...you just need to be careful not to split your yarn!

Oh, this is beautiful. I love the colors you used.
ReplyDeleteIs this a Tunisian crochet type of thing? It truly looks like it is knitted. Great job. :)
Stitchy, it's not tunisian. Since I purchased the pattern, I'm not really at liberty to tell exactly what it is, but I WILL advise that if you have a look back at my post earlier in the week when I introduced it, Linda left a comment and a url address to a post of hers that tells how the look is accomplished. I think the yarn she used was bulkier and her stitches don't lay as close to one another...but it's the same stitch. And, by the way...I did indeed figure out how to remove followed blogs and can't remember. I still don't have a computer, but as soon as I get it back, I'll figure it out, write it down and share it. Hugs!
DeleteThank you sweet friend for the info. I am looking forward to learning how to get the follow thing fixed. :)
DeleteI am heading back to your posts to figure this out. :)
Hugs and blessings always
OMGoodness, this is nothing short of pure genius! I would have never, ever in a billion years figured this out! Now I have two new blogs to follow as well...thanks so much. :)
DeleteReally pretty ! It does not look crocheted !
ReplyDeleteThat is gorgeous and well-done and yummy and soft and warm looking! Good job!
ReplyDelete((hugs)), Teresa :-)
So pretty!! I just used that yarn and yes it is a bit splitty. But I so love the finish of it!!!
ReplyDeleteLove this cowl!
XO Kris
Yay! You did it. And that join looks pretty darn good to me! Those are great colors, but I don't think I can abide the Caron SS for all those stitches. That stuff is just too splitty for me. It sure does look soft though. Your stitches look great. Wonderful job, Missy. Thanks for all the info too!
ReplyDeleteLove your cowl! Just went and bought the pattern. Thanks for the post.
