Originally posted five years ago, it continues to receive comments and questions. I'm a bit frustrated with the original post as I can no longer see current comments, nor can I respond. Hence, I'm re-posting and hoping this gives me the opportunity to answer questions more effectively. Thanks for loving this blanket!

THIS RE-POST has a few changes to address the confusion I caused by using the term "TC" rather than "TR" I was referring to a treble crochet wherever I
originally wrote "TC". In this re-post all uses of TC are being replaced with TR.
The treble crochet stitch is similar to a double crochet, but instead of
one Y/O to start the stitch, you yarn over 2 times. Red Heart
describes the entire treble crochet stitch if you google it.

Thank you all for the awesome response to this pattern. I'm amazed that it is still going strong so many years later!
********************************************************************************
Crochet Terms are US only

Hook size: K

Yarns used were purchased at Hobby Lobby, “I Love This Yarn” brand.

For
those who are asking how to do the bobble stitch, I must clarify…I used
the name “bobble” in the title of the original posting of the blanket,
but I did not use an official “bobble stitch” to create it. My
apologies for any confusion. I have also seen this particular stitch
referenced as the “popcorn” stitch. I don't want to create chaos, so
I'm dropping the term "bobble" from the pattern name.

Using
the color you wish to utilize first, CH the amount of stitches
necessary to achieve the WIDTH of the blanket you desire. (I used 121).
Your initial chain should be your desired width plus ONE chain.

Row 1:
Using the same color you used in the initial chain row, work one sc
into the 2nd CH, and continue working one SC into each chain across to
the end (120 sts - creates your foundation row).

Row 2:
Still using your first color, CH 1, turn. *1 SC into the next stitch, 1
TR into the next stitch* Repeat from * to * and end with a SC in the
last stitch of the row. This has created your first row of
bobbles/popcorn stitches.

Row 3: Still using
your first color, CH3, turn. Into the next stitch work one SC. (Note,
this SC is worked into the top of what was a TR in the prior row.) Into
the next stitch, work one TR. (Note, this TR is worked into the top of
what was a SC in the prior row.) *SC in next st, TR in next st*
across. You will work a TR into the final SC of the prior row and then a
DC into what was the turning CH in the prior row.

As
a note: that last TR you need to make is easy to miss in the row since
the SC of the row prior (where you need to place it) is often a bit
hidden and hard to see until you get used to the pattern. Forewarned is
forearmed! Don't miss it!

And
a few words about COLOR! If you're working a color pattern the same as
mine pictured here, I changed colors in EVERY OTHER ROW. This method
results in one row of bobbles/popcorn stitches per color occurrence on
EACH side of the blanket. (Because you are turning at the start of each
row, the bobbles occur in every other row on each side and occur on
BOTH sides of the blanket.)

Row 4 is worked in the same color as Row 3. The
first color change occurs in Row 5 and again in Row 7, again in Row 9
and from there out in every other row.

Row 4 and beyond:
repeat the pattern used in Row 3. Each row starts with a CH3 and ends
with a DC. Between those two stitches you are working a repeat of SC,
TR into each stitch. Pretty simple!

Check your
work…your bobbles/popcorn stitches will be popping out on both sides of
your blanket and should appear in alignment on each side. The popcorn
results when the TR is trapped on either side by a SC stitch. Being
that it is a tall stitch, it has nowhere to go but to pop out!

The pattern for the bobble EDGING I used is NOT MINE. My blog post of Monday, January 23, 2012 has a link to that edging pattern from the talented Heidi Bears. Check it out!

Have fun and happy "rainbow-ing"! Dreams really do come true!
This "wheel stitch" captured my imagination when I first discovered the art of crochet. I happened upon a book a few months ago...and it had a pattern in it that unlocked the key to this stitch for me! I started off making multiple squares - each a different color theme - thinking I would join them all and make a blanket. As the number of squares grew, I decided to scrap the idea of a blanket and make individual cushion covers instead. This is my second completion. I have four others to do. These have been languishing in a corner and I have now begun (in earnest) the process of wrapping them up! I re-purposed a denim colored cushion I had hanging around. It shows through the spaces between the circles and matches it quite conveniently!Petunia Pillhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01015563707243134765noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8063640288377167330.post-42445227387748026832015-01-31T14:15:00.001-05:002015-01-31T14:15:57.399-05:00Cupcake

This is Cupcake. She is based on the clever amigurumi giraffe pattern by Kornflake Stew. I made her a bit larger than the pattern instructions...added the tapestry cupcake to her chest and incorporated the "Furrylicious Boot" pattern for the start of her legs. She has a crocheted flower and leaves tucked beside her ear and her little scarf matches the yarn used for her boots. And if you look closely, you'll see the buttons on her boots are cupcakes too! She was a blast to make...I just love this pattern! I will be making all future creations like her a bit larger as well. I like the larger size. I also increased the circumference of her head, legs and arms to match the increased body/size. She is primarily made of "I Love This Cotton", however her boots and scarf are Caron Soft Secret. I ended up wrapping her boots in Ziploc bags as I worked on her so that the constant rubbing of the boots in my lap didn't mess up the gloss of the fibers.

I have an ongoing envy for all of my fellow bloggers who have created yummy, cozy cushion covers by re-purposing chunky sweaters. I keep saying I'm going to do it, but I never do.

Simultaneously, I have always liked the basket weave look of the pattern repeat BPDC/FPDC.

A few weeks ago, I grabbed some "I Love This Yarn" in ivory and struggled with trying to puzzle through the set up of the pattern. A light bulb finally went off and it all started to make sense and come together. I've been plugging along with it in the ensuing weeks, thinking it would become a blanket. It seemed to grow very slowly. And then, while sitting in bed working on it the other night, it hit me. THIS was my sweater-y cushion cover. And wouldn't you know, it was meant to be...I needed only a couple of additional rows to make it just the perfect size to wrap around an existing cushion that needed a new life. If I make another, I will make two equal size squares to join on all four sides...this happens to be a rectangle that I had to join on three sides to encapsulate the cushion. I ended up putting a matching edge on the 4th side for uniformity. I can't wait to make another! And another! And I know as soon as my daughter sees this, she will put an order in for her own! She loves ivory and she is going to love this...and I'm not giving mine up! I can't tell you how deliciously soft and cushy this pattern is! It's very warm and comforting. Go ahead! Try one of your own...cozy on up!Petunia Pillhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01015563707243134765noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8063640288377167330.post-50374340536137940342014-12-12T21:27:00.000-05:002014-12-12T21:27:37.449-05:00Jaxon, The Giraffe

Just finished this little guy today. Pattern is from KornflakeStew (for a fee) if you want to make your own.
I challenged myself to a little tapestry crochet on this one...I'm fairly pleased with my first attempt, however, my stitches have a slant to them and I need to figure out how to resolve that issue.
I already have inspiration for the next one. The possibilities are endless with this cute pattern!
Hope everyone is well. I have been scarce around these parts lately. My time seems to be taken with my photography business picking up a little and volunteering at a local hospital. But I'm still crocheting! Thanks, Amy, for asking! You know who you are! =)Petunia Pillhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01015563707243134765noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8063640288377167330.post-56400040055078184872014-09-19T16:15:00.000-04:002014-09-19T16:15:36.154-04:00My Very Own Bina!
After seeing this doll on Ravelry and Instagram, I decided I needed one of my own. I'm most proud of myself for actually finishing the project. When it comes to projects with lots of finishing details, I have this terrible tendency to let them languish in a corner for months, er...years before finishing them. Bina here...she's been on my hook for about three weeks...so this was a quick finish for me. Her pattern is available on Ravelry, her author is Lallylala.Petunia Pillhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01015563707243134765noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8063640288377167330.post-31932332655942404742014-09-07T17:44:00.002-04:002014-09-07T17:49:23.747-04:00Elle-a-Phant Hat

It was one of those cute little projects that struck me so hard, I had to stop what I was doing (allllllll those unfinished projects) and start it immediately! It was a quick make - and it's adorable. And, what you see above is ALLLLLLL wrong...definitely had a few issues...like my stitches don't line up as they do in the picture on the pattern page (each cluster should be stacked directly above the cluster on the row/round below but mine are on a diagonal). Additionally, I failed miserably at the end of each round when it came to making the final stitch before starting the next round. I will definitely be making this one again...and again...until I get it right! But, even in this version of epic fail...it's adorable! I know just the little newborn that needs to wear it so I can photograph it! If you want the pattern for yourself, go here! It's not free, but it is reasonable! Wish me luck...I'm off to try it again!
Made this little goodie for a new baby in our neighborhood. A few months ago, I found this chart for the yoke of a newborn dress/shirt on Pinterest and tucked it away for a rainy day. I used the chart to start this dress (with a few variations to make the shoulders a little bit deeper than charted) and then winged it from there. The matching hat is my own creation also. Actually, no, you shouldn't! Because that "finger up your arse" pose while you wait for a very long time is working quite nicely for you!
And it's NOT knitting! It's crochet!
It all started, once again, with something I found on Pinterest. I saw the stitch and was drawn to it immediately! Unique and different...in my mind. I searched for it for quite some time and FINALLY (days later) found it on Ravelry. It was late, I was getting ready to go to sleep...darkness surrounding me, iPad glowing in the dark. Danger! Danger! I was in a weakened state, so shoot me! I found the pattern on Ravelry, but it was part of a book! Waaaaah! I wanted it to be inexpensive! But NOOOOOOOO! The smart author incorporated it in an entire publication. Of course, the other patterns are intriguing too...as all have a 3-D look about them. OK, ok. PayPal. Danger! Danger! That PayPal stuff is way too easy! I was tired, comfy, dilly dallying about before going to sleep and before I knew it, I'd bought it! Would I have morning after regret? Maybe a little, but it's so pretty!

Here's another view of it, I've just folded it differently and tucked in a few ends. This stitch is kinda hard to photograph and capture all the definition!

It's not a hard stitch, but it DOES require concentration to get each row correct. One mis-stitich and your pattern is skewed (translated "screwed"). Trust me, I know, I had to rip about three hours worth of hooking when I looked at it on a table and realized I had messed up many rows back!
So, my morning after regret occurred two days later when I was on Pinterest and found a pin that showed a graph of this 3-D pattern...for freakin' free! Dang it! Why couldn't I have found that before my late night purchase? Go look on Ravelry, I'm not telling the price of the publication here...check it out "3D Crochet" by Sidsel Sangild. Aye-yie-yie! But I DO like it and I will definitely use the stitch in other ways...I already have an idea in mind. Sidsel did not use it for a cowl or scarf as I did...she uses it in different ways. Great stitch! And I will definitely make some of the other goodies in that publication...just to get my money's worth.
Thanks for looking!

Found a blanket like this on Pinterest...but there was no pattern. Those yummy colors called to me! It was easy enough to study the photo and figure it out.

(By the way: there are more photos of this blanket in my "Projects" on Ravelry. I am known as "azshere" on Ravelry. Come see me! Sometimes I think I have an identity crisis going on with all my different user names!.)

Back to the business at hand here: The original blanket I espied on Pinterest had a fringed edge that incorporated the various ends into the fringe at each end. That should be easy enough! So I crocheted along without weaving in any ends as I went. (Oh, why did I do that?????)

And then...I got to the end of the project and needed to make the fringe. It sat in a corner for weeks (maybe months) because making all those little fringe pieces is kinda like watching grass grow in my opinion. I just did NOT want to do it.

About a week ago, I made a tough decision...weave in all...A.L.L. (ALL) the pesky ends (wearing my big girl panties) and then proceed to finish it with my oh so very favorite crab stitch. If you haven't used that yet, I highly encourage you to give it a try! It is sooooooo beautiful and makes such a wonderful edge! So, now ask me...which is worse...weaving in A.L.L. those ends or cutting all those little pieces of yarn to make the fringe? Uhmmmmmmmmm?

Let's go watch the grass grow.

C'mon, it'll be fun!

I finished my blanket. What a joy. What a delight. I think I'll make another!

Do you know what my problem is? I like it so much, I don't want to give it away! So if I make some more...I'll always have one for me!

The idea for this blanket was born when all my IG (Instagram) friends started off the year crocheting a square a day - a square to reflect their mood for the day. By the end of the year, they'll have a very large moody blanket! LOL!!! I kinda wanted to do that, but just knew I wouldn't stick with it! So, knowing that I'm immersed in winter and starved for color, I decided to raise my mood and work with my favorite colors! All the pastels! Yummy!

And...I decided to tackle my issue with not understanding how to create beautiful patterns with my corners when I join! I used a tutorial from Cypress Textiles (once publishing under the name of "Baby Love Brand") for the "flat braid join" - and, voila! I have beautifully patterned corners!

The border? Well, that was my own creation...sorta. I used an idea from "Little Woolie" and changed it up a bit. I knew I wanted my self striping yarn to show up around the edges and create a frame to reflect all the pastel goodness on the squares. I'm very happy with how it turned out. And here's a close up of one of the corners. The self striping yarn results in a variation of color all around the edges...it's truly lovely! (Edited to add: I used a very pale yellow yarn to do the crab stitch around the edge...I am absolutely IN LOVE with that stitch for finishing purposes! Look at how lovely it is!)

Very special twin girls are expected in a few days. These outfits were made for them!

Boots are the "Furrylicious Boots" - available for a fee on Ravelry. How I LOVE these boots! I think sewing the buttons on takes just as long as making the whole darned boot! LOL

Diaper Cover is a free pattern available HERE

Hat is the "Stretchy Beanie". I originally saw it on Linda's Crafty Corner and she was kind enough to share the pattern with me. I have also found its listing by the author on Ravelry. It is a free pattern, works up quickly and yields an adorable hat! I've made more than a few thus far!

Please don't feel the need to leave a comment; I'm not doing much of that myself these days, but I do like to share with you what I'm doing...just in case you see something that you want to try too! I look in on you all now and again. Please find me on Instagram if you're a user! I am @fromanyangle in that world and would love to connect with you over there! I finally finished this project! My daughter requested this and I decided to make it for her as one of her Christmas gifts. On Christmas morning, she opened a box that contained a partial scarf with skeins of yarn attached. There just weren't enough hours to finish! And since the holiday, time has continued to escape me! I finally...F.I.N.A.L.L.Y. wrapped it up this morning...just in time for our brutally cold temps to even out a bit. But the cold will return and she'll have cause to wrap it about her neck, no doubt!

I used a typical chevron pattern, but winged it (fudged it) quite a bit too! These chevrons are tough as the yarn tends to become very wavy as the rows of the pattern work up. Blocking would likely fix it, but I HATE blocking. I don't mind small somthings, but this rather LONG something would have been hard to block in constricted spaces around here! I made it too darned wide - and with the waves that were occurring, I decided to make it into a tube...and slip stitched together the long sides of the scarf. It's now double thickness and super squishy. I used an "N" sized hook to give it plenty of drape - so as a double thickness, it's quite soft and lovely.
Thanks for looking!
Little Miss Sunshine makes numerous appearances here in my blog. She is not related to me - but I am very blessed to have both her grandmother and mother as dear friends of mine. They indulge my whims and allow me to crochet for her AND take photos of her...both of my passions rolled into one! Being with her (and her family) is always a very delightful occasion for me.

Little Miss Sunshine (LMS) is very special. And I'm not just saying that! Look at the photo above. What she is doing there is greeting a poodle she has never met before. She is offering the top of her head to the dog - and since this isn't a video...I can tell you she rubs the top of her head against the dog ever so slightly. And you may be asking "WHY"?!?!

Let me tell you! LMS lives in a home with cats. One of these cats is a commanding personality...a real character. He loves LMS and spends a lot of time on the floor with her. He has taught her to greet others in the only way he knows how...he rubs his head against her!

I can't tell you the feeling that comes over me when I watch her do this. It, quite literally, brings tears to my eyes. She can be running around in her little "new to walking" stride...she sees him, stops...runs over and offers her head up against his tail or the side of his body or his head itself. And then she takes off again into her world of adventure. I don't have a photo of her with the cat...but I did have the one above - taken early in November, when she met the neighbor's poodle for the first time. This is indeed a special child...clearly very much in touch with God's creatures...taught a valuable lesson by one of His own. I know LMS will stop doing this someday...I don't want it to ever stop!

This post is about my new favorite yarn: Red Heart Boutique Treasures. I saw it made up in a pattern (for a fee) Here on Craftsy. I had to have it! The scarf AND the same yarn! I haven't blocked my work and it doesn't look as nice as the original in the pattern, but I won't be wearing it as a shawl - and I'm not sure that it needs to look as precise as the photo. I will wear this as a scarf around my neck. This yarn is soft, the scarf is cushy and luxurious and I LOVE it! I love it so much, I took lots of photos! The colors are just beyond fun!

And then I saw yet another pattern - free on the Red Heart site, it's called Desert Arrow. And I used the same yarn to create the beauty below.

The pattern doesn't call for fringe, but the pattern makes up with the point of the arrow on one end and the inward slant on the opposite end...and I wanted an even look...so decided on a fringe finish and trimmed the fringe to be even across. I like it better this way.

These colors just make me happy! Hope they do for you too! Such a fun yarn!!!!

Imagine...if you will...this photo WITHOUT the bag of onions in the lower left corner! LOL

Sarah, at Repeat Crafter Me , shared the free pattern for this delightful hat on her blog yesterday. And just wait until you see her baby wearing this hat! Ohhhhhh, so cute! She, however, does NOT have a bag of onions in her photos! More LOL.

Do you know a little one that would love this warm hat? Go get the pattern and get started! It's a fairly quick make and the ears and nose and eye are quite simple to create and attach!

This hat is destined for sweet, precious "Little Miss Sunshine" and I can't wait to see it on her! I'll share photos if/when I have them.
